About Me

So here, you are …. reading my “About Me” page.  Wondering if we have anything in common.  Well, let’s find out.

Here are some goals I have for my life now.  Let’s see if you can relate:

  • I want to manage my time and energy more effectively.  Being a solo mom is hard – there’s no “back up” in the form of a spouse.  At the end of the day, it’s just you with all the weight of the family decisions on your shoulders.  There are only so many hours in the day, and only so much energy to go around.  I want to be more effective and intentional in what I do each day.  This makes me a better mom for my daughters, and makes me a better role model.
  • I want to stay organized.  I’m tired of getting bogged down by all the daily stuff, losing traction and feeling left behind in life.  I want to stay on top of things, and not get frustrated as often.  And I want to hit the restart button as often as I need to, regroup and push forward.
  • I want to age gracefully.  I don’t want to one day wake up and find that everything is behind me, unable to look forward with anticipation.  I want to continue to learn and grow, and create new challenges and adventures along the way.

So can you relate?  Anything sounding familiar?

So this blog is about the everyday stuff.  The little changes and the big changes.  The struggles of being a widow and a  solo parent, and the unexpected joys that show up along the journey.  The financial challenges that I am going through, and the journey to reach my goal of becoming healthier.

Here you will find simple organizational tips to help you reclaim your time and home, easy recipes, and DIY projects I have attempted (with varying results).  Nothing too earth-shattering.  But it’s what I talk about because that’s what populates my world now.  And all this (including me) is a work in progress.  With a little  lot of help from God.

I want this blog to be helpful and inspirational to you.  I want to encourage you, and inspire your creativity.

  1. Hello, I’m a single mom to a baby girl, Gigi. She’s 4 months old today. I love what you’re doing and am inspired by hearing your stories. I’m also a master’s student and conducting research on single moms. The brief survey is only 15 minutes and will help broaden current research of single mothers to include women who choose to raise children without a parenting partner, as well as, women who have become single after separation or loss of a partner. I hope to change the way we think about single moms and strengthen the community of ladies out there who are doing it on their own.
Participants must be single mothers over the age of 18 with a child between 12-36 months.

I would love it if you could post my graphic on Facebook or on the website with a link to my survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/momsolo

  2. Oh my geez…another Oregon blogger who is a young widow, like me! My favorite color is purple also and I love me some BBC…especially Sherlock!

I understand the grieving process as I am coming up on 10 years since my husband died of colon cancer. I am genuinely sorry for the death of your husband. Being a single parent when you didn’t expect it totally sucks!
