I did it! My new career is about to begin.

Well, it’s all but official – I am a 911 calltaker/dispatcher!

I am ready to start my new career.

I got my “conditional job offer” letter the end of last week.ย  My permanent job offer is contingent upon my successful completion of a hearing test, vision test, and drug test.ย  All of these were completed today.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t been sure if I should say too much about it to folks yet – since its not “official” and all.ย  But I have been so excited, its been hard to resist sharing the news.ย  I guess I really should wait until the permanent, official job offer letter comes in the mail.ย  Ummm …. nah!ย  Can’t wait.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Training starts December 19th, so for now I am just finishing stuff up around here at work and spending a lot of time thinking about what life will now be like as a dispatcher.

Who would have thoughtย  I would begin a new career now!

  1. I’m taking the CritiCall test tomorrow and sorta freaking out. I’m scared I won’t be good for the job even though I don’t really want to be the Call Taker. I’m more interested in the Radio Dispatcher and Teletype part of the job. I’m in Florida <— side note

    1. Good luck today with your test! Just relax and focus on each section of the test. Don’t get overwhelmed – just focus on one thing at a time. You will do great! ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I passed it!!! Hurray! Next is the panel interview. What was that like for you?

      2. Yeah! Great job. Thinking about the panel interview was a little nerve-wracking before hand, but afterwards it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. Just stay calm, and remember that most of the time there is not a real “right” answer – they want to know what you think about a situation, how you react, if you can think on your feet, etc. They may do a bit of role-playing (they did in mine) where you are a call taker and the caller isn’t able to give you much information, so you have to be creative in how you would get the information you need in order to dispatch the call properly. Just relax, and be honest in your answers. You will do fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Thanks, ebeams! I knew you would be happy for me. I was told they had 130 applicants that went through the first round of testing, down to actually hiring only 6 people. I feel very blessed, and very special. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Yes! You should be hugely proud and shout it to the whole world. You are about to become a member of an elite few who are unsung heroes, faceless and under appreciated for the most pat. How exciting! That’s awesome!

Talk about timing …. Whew … Right before Christmas is always so hectic! I hope you start on day shift and have Christmas Day off! Best wishes on your new adventure!
