ARE there actually scholarships for single moms?
Custody X Change offers two $1,000 scholarships each year.
Not One, But Two $1000 Scholarship Awards for Single Parents
The life of a single parent can be extremely rewarding. The bond that a single parent forms with their child or children is like no other. But, this lifestyle is also a difficult one.
Whether you are a single parent due to divorce, a widow or widower, or by choice, it’s a situation that can be as taxing and stressful as it is rewarding. You are not only responsible for yourself, but you are also responsible for every single aspect of raising your child without the help or support of the other parent.
Why a Scholarship?
At Custody X Change, we make software that assists parents with creating and following parenting plans and custody agreements. Every day we work with single parents, both single mothers and single fathers.
Most of our customer base is parents going through a separation or divorce. The most common shared trait between them is how stressed they are, both emotionally and financially.
While one of the goals of our software is to assist with that emotional stress by making co-parenting agreements easy to create and maintain, we do charge for it. It takes a lot of resources to continuously improve and update.
We have however decided there is a way we can help a little with the financial stress that accompanies parents going through divorce, and that’s by creating the Single Parents Scholarship.
This scholarship was started this year, 2016, and has received its initial applicants. We subsequently award one single mother and one single father each with a $1000 scholarship. The award winners were so excited we decided to continue the program indefinitely.
Unlike many other scholarships out there that are available to almost anyone, the Custody X Change scholarship is only available to single parents. That means that although our software is aimed at helping co-parenting duos, the scholarship is available to all single parents, divorced, never married, widowed, etc., as long as they meet the other following requirements.
· U.S. Resident
· Over 18 years of age
· Have primary physical custody of at least one minor child
· Be enrolled at an accredited college or university full-time
· Have a 3.0 or higher GPA
If you are a single parent that fits the all of the above requirements, you are eligible to apply.
Along with the basic application, we require a short 400-500 word essay that explains how you plan to use your education to improve the lives of your family members.
At Custody X Change, we develop software for separating and divorcing couples that have children. We work with single parents day in and day out. Without their support, we would not be able to continue to develop and improve our software.
While we feel our software is useful and fulfills a need they have, we also want to give back to the community that supports us. However, we also want to make it clear that this is open to all single parents, no matter how they became a single mother or father.
The 2017 scholarship opens (when we begin accepting applications) on February 1 and all essays must be received by July 31, 2017.
