Mint, Cucumber, and Lemon Water

Well, here we are again.  Another Monday, and it’s time to check in with my results for the week.  This week was better than last week – still not great, but I definitely made better choices this week.  And one of those is lemon water, with my own special twist.

One of the new things I am doing is based on a suggestion from my mom.  She told me about something she has started doing and I thought I would try the same.

She’s been drinking lemon/cucumber/mint water.  I had heard of lemon water before.  I had seen pictures on Pinterest of various detox water infusions using various fruits and veggies.  They always sounded good, but I never really tried any of them out. Pinned a few of them, but never tried them.  But when my mom told me she was drinking the lemon/cucumber/mint beverage, I decided to give it a try.

I had to go to Costco on Friday anyway, so while I was there I picked up a large bag of lemons.  Our garden has provided us with more cucumbers than we know what to do with, so that part was easy.  And mom has mint, which I haven’t taken advantage of yet but will get some from her today.  Even with just the lemon and cucumber slices it tastes great!

I started on Friday afternoon.  I have a Pampered Chef 2-quart pitcher (the kind you plunge up and down to mix the contents – very handy!), so I filled it with water and sliced 1/2 a lemon and 1/2 a cucumber into the pitcher.  I made myself drink all 2 quarts that day, then did the same on Saturday and Sunday.  I have my pitcher filled already to drink today!

Here are a few things that people say are benefits to drinking this type of water (from

“Alkalizes the Body “Disease cannot thrive in an alkaline body.” Lemons and cucumbers are alkaline forming foods that will help your body to work at its optimal level. A balanced pH is everything if you want to stay healthy.

I am still not sure if these benefits are for real.  I will have to keep using my special blend of lemon water for a while to see what benefits I see for myself.  But the result is that I am drinking more water, and being very consistent about my fluid intake.  And that isn’t bad.  And the lemon and cucumber make the water very refreshing!
